The Thunder & Lightning Rules

Must be Stock as stated!

1.Bodies: Later model bodies may be mounted on earlier model frames within manufacturer’s line. GM on GM, Ford on Ford. Bodies can be made from steel, aluminum, or fiberglass. Must use stock bumpers or aftermarket, such as Five-Star or Performance Bodies. No plastic skirts on rear quarter panels. Plastic skirting around front wheels may flare out wider than nosepiece and may not extend to rear past front wheels. (See body sheet) Bodies may be cut to clear tires. Must have front and rear firewalls around driver. Does not have to extend completely front side to the other on front and rear. No tunneling or dropping of interior sheet metals. Must be even across from one side to the other. Spoilers may be fabricated or aftermarket, made of lexan or aluminum. Maximum width of 72” by 8” high. Spoiler may have side supports, 8” high at rear tapering down to 2” at the front. Rear spoiler height at top of spoiler will be no more than 45” from ground. There will be a one inch tolerance on all spoiler measurements. Rear of car can be open no bumper.

2.Chassis: Stock only, except as stated. Minimum 104” wheelbase. Any factory front snout (GM ,Ford ,Etc.). Snout, engine and body must all be by the same manufacturer. Screw jacks legal in front and rear. Any sway bar, stock or aftermarket OK. Pittman arms may be cut, shortened, lengthened, and bent. No aftermarket Pittman arms. All other front end components such as tie rods, tie rod ends, drag link, spindles, lower A-frames, etc must be OEM, but no necessarily same year and make as body on snout. Any combination as long as within the same manufacturer . Lowering blocks legal. Must have drive shaft loop under front half of drive shaft. Sliders or shackles legal on leaf springs. Leaf springs on rear are the only suspension acceptable. Multiple mounting holes for front eye of leaf springs OK. Racing shocks on rear, one per wheel only. No wrap up shocks. No 5th arm. The rear-end assembly should be connected to the leaf springs by U-bolts with lowering blocks in center of leaf. Front of leaf should mount through front leaf eye. Rear eye should hook to shackle or slide. May run rear coil spring car. Drive shaft will hook to front of rear -end. Nothing else should be hooked to rear-end. No hydraulic, electric, etc. weight or suspension jacking systems allowed.

3.Rear-End: Any 9” Ford, floater OK. No quick change.

4.Brakes: Any pedals. Any aftermarket caliper allowed that would bolt to OEM spindles.

5.Wheels: Any steel, 10-inch maximum width. Bead lock on right side only.

6.Tires: McCreary( American Racer) 10.5 or 56 or Hossier D55 only.

7.Drive Shaft: Any steel. No aluminum, titanium, or carbon fibers. Any diameter OK.

8.Transmission:Stock OEM type. Richmond OEM replacement, Bert or Brinn, with Bert or Brinn must add 50lbs. Must have working reverse.

9.Flywheel: Any

10.Clutch: 2or 3 min. 6 ¼” disc conventional type legal. No direct drives or spuds, etc.

11.Engine: Set back: From #1 plug even with top ball joint. 1” tolerance.

12.Fuel: Racing gas, must pass track test. Any size fuel cell allowed. Must be located in the trunk area.

13.Weight: Must weigh 2800 lbs. After race.

14.Engine: 350 Cubic Inches Chevy. Ford 351 Cubic Inches. Maximum overbore .060.

- Block: Stock cast iron production. SVO block OK.

- Heads: GM steel straight plug heads ONLY. No bowtie, no Vortec. No porting or polishing heads or intake. ¾” blend under the valve. OK. May run World Product sr heads. - Crank: Stock type, must have factory forging #. Stock stroke. Must weigh 50 lbs. No lightening of crankshaft, except for balancing. No knife edging.

- Rods: Any Steel

- Pistons: Any flat top.

- Cam: Any flat tappet

- Lifter: Any stock diameter. Chevy .842, Ford .875

-Valve: Any - 2.02 Intake Max. - 1.6 Exhaust Max.

-Rocker Arms: Roller rocker arms OK.

-Intake: Any. NO porting or polishing of any kind to heads or intake.

-Carburetor: Holley 750 CFM model# 4779.

Only choke horn must remain with m#. It may be cut at end of screw only.

No thinning of shaft or ventured.

-Spacer: None.

-Lube: Any wet sump. Any pan.

-Header: OK but must run mufflers

-Ignition: Stock type, MSD legal, no magnetos.

-Fuel Pump: No electric.

NO Traction control devices of any kind!
